Options explained
- Public IP
- The address websites see. Home and office networks usually share one public address assigned by the provider.
- Location data
- Addresses in China use ip2region data; elsewhere GeoLite2 data from MaxMind is used.
- Private addresses
- Addresses such as 192.168.x.x and 10.x.x.x only work inside a local network and have no public location.

Frequently asked questions
How accurate is IP location?
Usually right about the country and region, and often the city. Mobile networks, proxies, VPNs and cloud servers frequently show a different place from where you are.
Why is my IP different from my computer settings?
Your computer usually shows a private address assigned by your router. This page shows the public address your traffic uses on the internet.
Are lookups logged?
Lookups run on our server and results are not stored. Server access logs record IP addresses, used only to prevent abuse.
