How to use
- Type LaTeX in the box, or click a symbol button to insert a template. Select text first to wrap it.
- Choose display or inline layout and set the size and color.
- Copy the LaTeX or MathML, or copy or download the image.
Options explained
- Supported syntax
- Standard LaTeX math plus the amsmath, amssymb, mathtools, physics, mhchem (chemistry with \ce), cancel and color packages.
- MathML
- The standard markup for math. Word 2016 and later turn pasted MathML into an equation object you can keep editing.
- Image export
- SVG is a vector image that scales without blurring; PNG is exported at 2× resolution with a transparent background.
Common formulas
These snippets all render in the editor. Type them as shown, or use the palette to insert the same structures:
| Result | LaTeX |
|---|---|
| Fraction | \frac{a+b}{2} |
| Cube root | \sqrt[3]{x} |
| Sum | \sum_{i=1}^{n} i = \frac{n(n+1)}{2} |
| Integral | \int_0^\infty e^{-x^2}\,dx = \frac{\sqrt{\pi}}{2} |
| Limit | \lim_{x\to 0}\frac{\sin x}{x}=1 |
| Binomial | \binom{n}{k} |
| Matrix | \begin{pmatrix} a & b \\ c & d \end{pmatrix} |
| Piecewise | \begin{cases} x & x>0 \\ 0 & x\le 0 \end{cases} |
| Blackboard R | \mathbb{R} |
| Chemical formula | \ce{2H2 + O2 -> 2H2O} |
| Crossed-out term | \cancel{x} |
How big the exported image is
MathJax lays the formula out in units of ex, and the editor takes 1 ex as half of the Size value. At the default size of 32, \frac{a+b}{2} measures 5.93 ex wide and 4.65 ex high, so the SVG is about 94.9 by 74.4 px. The PNG is drawn at twice that scale on a transparent background, so it is sharp on high-density screens.
Frequently asked questions
Word shows the pasted MathML as code. What now?
Use Paste Special → Keep Text Only, which Word usually converts into an equation. Word 365 also accepts LaTeX typed directly into its equation editor.
Why do I see “Undefined control sequence”?
A command is misspelled or not supported. Check the name after the backslash — \alpha, not \alfa.
Is anything uploaded?
No. Rendering and export happen in your browser.
