How to use
- Type or paste domains on the left to get Punycode, or paste xn-- domains on the right to decode them.
- Put one domain per line to convert several at once.
- Copy the result.
Options explained
- Unicode
- The domain as people read it. It is normalised the way browsers do — upper case becomes lower case and full-width characters become normal ones.
- Punycode (ASCII)
- The xn-- form used in DNS records, TLS certificates and some email systems.
Examples
| Unicode | Punycode |
|---|---|
| bücher.example | xn–bcher-kva.example |
| 例子.中国 | xn–fsqu00a.xn–fiqs8s |
| münchen.de | xn–mnchen-3ya.de |
Frequently asked questions
Why do I need Punycode?
DNS only allows letters, digits and hyphens. Internationalised domain names are converted to Punycode so they can be registered and looked up, and browsers convert them back for display.
Why does a browser show my domain as xn--?
Browsers show Punycode instead of Unicode when a name mixes scripts in a way that could imitate another domain, to protect against lookalike phishing domains.
Are my domains sent anywhere?
No. Conversion runs in your browser.
