Options explained
- FAQ page
- Questions and answers that are visible on the page.
- Product
- Needs a price or a rating; add availability, brand and image for richer results.
- Breadcrumbs
- The path from the home page; every item except the current page needs a full URL.
Example output and what is checked
A product with a price and a rating produces this code. Empty fields are left out, the currency is converted to upper case and the availability becomes a schema.org address:
<script type="application/ld+json">
{
"@context": "https://schema.org",
"@type": "Product",
"name": "Trail Backpack 30L",
"image": [
"https://example.com/pack.jpg"
],
"sku": "NP-30",
"brand": {
"@type": "Brand",
"name": "Northpeak"
},
"offers": {
"@type": "Offer",
"price": "89.00",
"priceCurrency": "USD",
"availability": "https://schema.org/InStock"
},
"aggregateRating": {
"@type": "AggregateRating",
"ratingValue": "4.6",
"reviewCount": "128"
}
}
</script>
The list next to the code shows these messages as you type:
| Type | Required | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| FAQ page | At least one complete question and answer | — |
| Article | Image, if given, must be a full URL | Headline, image, published date, author |
| Product | Name; a price or a rating with its review count; a currency when there is a price | Image |
| Local business | Name; street address and city | Phone, URL, opening hours |
| Breadcrumbs | A full URL for every item except the last | At least two items |
Frequently asked questions
Will adding structured data get me rich results?
It makes a page eligible, but Google decides what to show. FAQ rich results, for example, are now shown mainly for authoritative government and health sites.
Where do I put the code?
Anywhere in the page’s <head> or <body>. Many CMS platforms have a field or plugin for custom scripts.
Can I mark up content that is not on the page?
No. Structured data has to describe content that visitors can see; mismatched markup can lead to a manual action.
