UTM Builder

Tag the links in your newsletter, ads and social posts so analytics shows exactly which campaign brought each visitor. Fill in source, medium and campaign, or switch to Batch to tag several pages for several channels at once and download a CSV. Existing query parameters and #anchors are kept, and the tool flags the capital letters and spaces that split one source into several rows in your reports.

Runs in your browser — nothing you enter is uploaded

Quick fill:

Where the traffic comes from: google, newsletter, facebook

The channel type: cpc, email, social, referral

Campaign name: spring_sale

Paid keyword (optional)

Which ad or link was clicked, for A/B tests (optional)

Campaign ID (optional)

Tagged link

https://example.com/landing?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=spring_sale

Existing query parameters and the #fragment are kept. Do not use UTM tags on internal links within your own site — they start a new session and overwrite the original source.

How to use

  1. Paste the page URL.
  2. Fill in utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign, or click a Quick fill pair such as newsletter/email.
  3. Copy the tagged link. For many links, choose Batch, enter page URLs and sources, then copy all or download the CSV.

Options explained

utm_source
Where the visitor came from, such as google, newsletter or facebook.
utm_medium
The type of channel, such as cpc, email or social. Analytics tools use it to sort traffic into channels.
utm_campaign
The name of the promotion or campaign, such as spring_sale.
utm_term, utm_content, utm_id
Optional — the paid keyword, which ad or link was clicked, and a campaign ID.

With Convert to lower case on and Replace spaces with set to an underscore (both are the defaults), this input:

Page URL: https://example.com/pricing?ref=nav#plans
utm_source: Newsletter
utm_medium: email
utm_campaign: Spring Sale

gives:

https://example.com/pricing?ref=nav&utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=spring_sale#plans

The existing ref parameter and the #plans anchor are kept. A URL typed without http or https is treated as https. Any utm_ parameters already on the link are replaced, and you get a warning.

In Batch, every page URL is combined with every line in Sources, so 2 pages and 3 sources make 6 links. Quick fill offers google/cpc, facebook/social, newsletter/email, twitter/social, linkedin/social, wechat/social and qrcode/print. The CSV has the columns url, source, medium, campaign and tagged_url.

Frequently asked questions

Why convert everything to lower case?

UTM values are case-sensitive, so Facebook and facebook show up as two separate sources. Keeping everything lower case avoids split reports.

Should I add UTM tags to links within my own website?

No. A tagged internal link starts a new session and replaces the visitor’s original source, which distorts your data.

Are my links sent anywhere?

No. The links are built in your browser.
