How to use
- Type the title, description and URL.
- The Google desktop and Baidu PC previews update below, with the current width and the limit.
- If one says it will be cut off, shorten it or move the important words to the front.
Options explained
- Google title
- Measured in 20px Arial with a limit of about 600 px; descriptions in 14px Arial up to about 920 px (two lines).
- Baidu title
- Counted in width units with CJK characters as 2 — about 60 for titles (30 Chinese characters) and 156 for descriptions.
How the Baidu width is counted
For Baidu the preview does not measure pixels. It counts width units: every character is 1 unit, except Chinese, Japanese and Korean characters and full-width punctuation, which are 2. Latin letters, digits and spaces are 1. Some examples:
| Text | Width units |

The limits are 60 units for a title and 156 for a description, so a title of 30 Chinese characters just fits, while a 40-character one is cut after 29 characters plus the ellipsis. The ellipsis counts toward the limit, so the preview shows the longest text that still fits with it.
Google is different: the title is measured in pixels in your browser using 20px Arial, and the description using 14px Arial, so the number of characters that fit depends on which letters you use. A title full of narrow letters such as i and l fits more characters than one with capitals or W and M. Check the pixel figure under the preview rather than counting characters.
Frequently asked questions
Is the preview exactly what search engines show?
Not exactly. The cut-off points are common estimates; search engines adjust by device and query and sometimes rewrite titles and descriptions. Use it to avoid text that is clearly too long.
Is what I type uploaded?
No. The preview is calculated entirely in your browser.
Where should the keyword go in the title?
Near the start. If the title is cut off, the beginning is always shown, and it is what people scan first.
