How to use
- Enter the network name (SSID) exactly as it appears, including capital letters and spaces.
- Enter the password and choose the security type — WPA covers WPA, WPA2 and WPA3.
- Tick Hidden network if the network does not broadcast its name.
- Style the code if you like, add a caption such as "Scan to join Wi-Fi", and download PNG or PDF to print.
Options explained
- Network name (SSID)
- Case-sensitive and must match exactly. Special characters like ; , : are escaped automatically.
- Security
- WPA for WPA/WPA2/WPA3 personal networks (almost all home routers), WEP for very old routers, None for open networks. Enterprise networks with usernames are not supported by phone cameras.
- Hidden network
- Adds H:true so phones look for a network that does not broadcast its name.
Print ideas
- A small card on the coffee table or next to the router for guests.
- A table tent in a café or restaurant with the caption “Scan to join Wi-Fi”.
- In the house manual of a holiday rental, next to the check-in instructions.
- On the meeting room whiteboard for visitors to the office guest network.
Frequently asked questions
Do guests need an app to scan it?
No. The built-in camera on iPhone (iOS 11 and later) and on most Android phones (Android 10 and later) recognises Wi-Fi QR codes and offers to join the network.
What happens if I change my Wi-Fi password?
The old code stops working because the password is stored inside it. Generate and print a new one.
Is it safe to put my Wi-Fi password in a QR code?
Anyone who scans it can join and can see the password in their phone's settings — the same as telling them. For visitors, consider a separate guest network.
Why doesn't the code work?
Check that the network name matches exactly (it is case-sensitive), the security type is right, and the printed code is large enough — 3 cm or more for scanning at arm's length.
