How to use
- Click Start camera and allow access when the browser asks.
- Check the picture, the resolution and the measured frame rate.
- If you have several cameras, pick one from the list.
- Optionally take a photo, then click Stop to turn the camera off.
Options explained
- Resolution
- The size the camera is actually delivering. The test asks for up to 1920 × 1080; the camera may provide less.
- Frame rate
- The rate the camera reports, and the rate measured from frames actually received. A much lower measured rate usually means poor lighting or a busy USB connection.
- Mirror image
- Shows the picture flipped like a mirror, as most video call apps do for your own view. Others see you unmirrored.
Reading the resolution line
Resolution shows the size and the aspect ratio, for example 1280 × 720 (16:9). The page asks the camera for 1920 × 1080 but accepts whatever it can give.
| Size | Aspect ratio | Pixels |
|---|---|---|
| 640 × 480 | 4:3 | 0.3 million |
| 1280 × 720 (720p) | 16:9 | 0.9 million |
| 1920 × 1080 (1080p) | 16:9 | 2.1 million |
| 3840 × 2160 (4K) | 16:9 | 8.3 million |
Frame rate reads like “30 fps (measured 29)”: the first number is what the camera reports, and the second is counted from frames that actually arrived during the last second.
Take a photo saves a PNG at the camera’s full resolution, named webcam followed by a timestamp. If Mirror image is ticked, the saved photo is mirrored too.
