Options explained

Commission
Charged on both the buy and the sell as trade value × rate, but never less than the minimum you enter.
Break-even price
The sell price at which proceeds after selling fees equal what you paid including buying fees.

The arithmetic, with an example

Each side of the trade is charged commission as the larger of trade value × rate and the minimum commission. Cost is the buy amount plus its commission. Profit is the sell amount minus its commission minus cost, and Return is profit ÷ cost. Amounts are rounded to cents.

Take 100 shares bought at 50 and sold at 52, with Commission (%) set to 0.5 and Minimum commission set to 1:

Item Buy Sell
Amount 5,000.00 5,200.00
Commission 25.00 26.00

Cost is 5,025.00 and profit is 5,200 − 26 − 5,025 = 149.00, a return of 2.97%. Note the return is measured on cost including the buying fee, not on the 5,000 you spent on shares alone. The break-even sell price is 50.503, slightly above the buy price because both fees must be recovered.

The break-even price is rounded up to three decimals. When the percentage commission would come to less than the minimum, the minimum is used instead: 500 shares bought at 20 and sold at 22 with 0.1% and a minimum of 5 pay 10.00 and 11.00 in commission (both above the minimum), and break even at 20.041. With 10 shares at the same prices, 0.1% would be only 0.20 per trade, so each side pays the 5.00 minimum.
