Options explained
- Formulas
- Last length = foot length + 1.5 cm; EU = last (cm) × 1.5; UK = 3 × last (inches) − 25; US men = UK + 1; US women = UK + 2.
- Japan and China
- Japanese sizes, and Chinese standard shoe sizes, are the foot length in centimetres (or millimetres).
A worked example
A foot length of 26 cm gives a shoe last of 26 + 1.5 = 27.5 cm, which is 10.83 inches. The sizes follow from that:
| System | Formula | Result | Shown (nearest half) |
|---|---|---|---|
| EU | 27.5 × 1.5 | 41.25 | 41.5 |
| UK | 3 × 10.83 − 25 | 7.48 | 7.5 |
| US men | UK + 1 | 8.48 | 8.5 |
| US women | UK + 2 | 9.48 | 9.5 |
The tool shows each size rounded to the nearest half. The Mondopoint size is simply the foot length in millimetres, so 26 cm is 260 mm.
| Foot length | EU | UK | US men | US women |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 23 cm | 37 | 4 | 5 | 6 |
| 24 cm | 38.5 | 5 | 6 | 7 |
| 25 cm | 40 | 6.5 | 7.5 | 8.5 |
| 26 cm | 41.5 | 7.5 | 8.5 | 9.5 |
| 27 cm | 43 | 8.5 | 9.5 | 10.5 |
| 28 cm | 44.5 | 10 | 11 | 12 |
| 29 cm | 46 | 11 | 12 | 13 |
Choosing a size system under “I know my” works backwards through the same formulas to find the foot length first. Foot lengths outside 8 to 40 cm are rejected.
Frequently asked questions
Why does a brand's chart differ?
Brands use different lasts and allowances, so half a size or more of difference is normal. Use this for orientation and the brand's own chart to buy.
How do I measure my foot?
In the evening, stand on paper with your heel against a wall and measure from heel to longest toe. Measure both feet and use the longer one.
Does it work for children's shoes?
It uses the adult formulas; children's sizing differs, so check the brand's kids' chart.
