How to use
- Paste your script and set the font size and scroll speed.
- Choose a horizontal mirror if you use prompter glass, and tick the countdown if you need a moment to get ready.
- Press Start for full screen. Space or a tap pauses, ↑ ↓ change speed, Esc exits.
Options explained
- Mirror
- Horizontal mirroring makes the text read correctly in a beam-splitter glass. Choose Horizontal + vertical for rigs that also flip the image upside down.
- Screen stays on
- In supporting browsers the screen is kept awake while prompting, so it won't go dark halfway through.
What the scroll speed means
The Scroll speed number is in tenths of a line per second. The text scrolls at speed ÷ 10 lines every second, where a line is the font size times 1.4. Because the distance is measured in lines, the pace stays the same when you change the Font size: bigger text moves faster in pixels but takes the same time per line.
| Speed | Lines per second | Seconds per line |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 0.1 | 10 |
| 5 | 0.5 | 2 |
| 8 (default) | 0.8 | 1.25 |
| 15 | 1.5 | 0.67 |
| 30 (maximum) | 3 | 0.33 |
To estimate how long a script will run, count the lines you see on screen, not the lines in your text, since long lines wrap, and divide by the lines per second. At the default speed of 8, a script that fills 120 screen lines takes 150 seconds. The font size ranges from 24 to 120 px, and a wider window fits more words per line (the text column is capped at a fixed maximum width), so test with the window you will really use.
The scrolling is timed by the clock rather than by frames, so a slow device does not slow the pace. The red reading line sits at the position where the first line of text starts, 40% of the way down the screen, or 40% up from the bottom when Horizontal + vertical is chosen. With a 3-second countdown the text stays still until it ends.
Besides the keys in the page, the mouse wheel moves the text by hand, and PageUp or PageDown jump half a screen.
Frequently asked questions
Is my script uploaded?
No. It is saved only in this browser and is still there next time.
Can it scroll by following my voice?
Not at the moment. Browser speech recognition sends audio to a third-party server, so only steady scrolling is offered; adjust the speed any time with the arrow keys.
How do I use it on a phone?
Put the phone in landscape, press Start, tap the text to pause or resume, and use the buttons at the bottom to change speed.
