How to use
- Set the tempo with the slider, the − and + buttons or the number box. If you don't know it, tap along with the music on Tap tempo four or five times.
- On the right, choose beats per bar (3 for 3/4 time), the subdivision and whether to accent the first beat.
- Click Start or press Space. The dots show which beat of the bar you are on.
Options explained
- Tempo (BPM)
- Beats per minute, 30 to 300. The Italian tempo marking is shown under the number, such as Andante (about 76–108) or Allegro (about 120–156).
- Beats per bar
- 1 to 12. With the accent on, the first beat of each bar has a higher click so you can count bars.
- Subdivision
- Splits each beat into 2 eighth notes, 3 triplets or 4 sixteenth notes; subdivisions use a softer click.
- Tap tempo
- Averages the gaps between your last 8 taps. A pause of more than 2 seconds starts a new measurement.

Frequently asked questions
Is an online metronome accurate?
Yes. Clicks are scheduled ahead on the browser's Web Audio clock rather than page timers, so a busy page does not drag or rush the beat. Some browsers lower precision in background tabs, so keep the page in front.
No sound on my phone?
On iPhone, turn off the silent switch and turn up media volume. Sound starts only after you tap Start the first time.
What tempo should I practise at?
Learn a new piece at 60–70% of the target tempo, then raise it by 4–8 BPM at a time until you reach full speed.
Can I use the keyboard?
Yes. Space starts and stops, T taps the tempo, and the arrow keys change it by 1 BPM.
