Options explained
- Reduce echo and background noise
- Uses the browser's echo cancellation, noise suppression and automatic gain. Turn it off for music or when you want the untouched signal.
- WAV
- Uncompressed audio that opens in every editor and player. Files are much larger than the original, about 10 MB per minute in stereo.
WAV file size and the recording format
The WAV copy is 16-bit uncompressed audio: sample rate × channels × 2 bytes per second, plus a 44-byte header. The sample rate is the one your browser decodes the recording at, usually 44.1 or 48 kHz.
| Sample rate | Mono, per minute | Stereo, per minute |
|---|---|---|
| 44.1 kHz | 5.3 MB | 10.6 MB |
| 48 kHz | 5.8 MB | 11.5 MB |
For the original recording the page asks the browser for these formats in order and uses the first one it supports: M4A (audio/mp4), WebM with Opus, Ogg with Opus, then plain WebM. Files are saved as recording followed by the date and time, with the matching extension.
