How to use
- Choose a video. Formats your browser can play show a preview.
- Play to the right spot and click Start here and End here, or type times such as 1:05.5.
- Click Trim and download to get the clip in the same format.
Options explained
- No re-encoding
- The original video data is copied, so it is fast and lossless, but the clip can only start on a keyframe, which may be slightly before the time you chose (usually within a second or two).
- Formats
- MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM and more; the output keeps the original format.
Time formats and the file name
Start and End take seconds or clock-style times. Colons separate hours, minutes and seconds, and the seconds may have decimals.
| You type | Read as |
|---|---|
| 75 | 75 seconds |
| 1:15 | 75 seconds |
| 1:05.5 | 65.5 seconds |
| 0:01:15 | 75 seconds |
Negative numbers, letters and more than three parts are rejected, and the “Enter a start time before the end time” warning appears. An End time past the end of the video is treated as the end.
The download keeps the original format and is named after the file plus the start time in seconds: trimming holiday.mp4 from 1:05.5 gives holiday-65.5s.mp4.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the clip start a little early?
Compressed video stores a complete picture (a keyframe) only every so often, and without re-encoding a clip must start on one. Frame-exact cuts need re-encoding, which this tool skips for speed and quality.
Is my video uploaded?
No. Trimming happens in your browser, so large files use no data.
Does it work on phones?
Yes, in recent iPhone Safari and Android Chrome, though very large videos may hit the phone's memory limit.
