Calculated in your browser with standard astronomical formulas (SunCalc) for sea level at the given coordinates; hills, buildings and air conditions can shift what you see by a few minutes. Civil dawn and dusk are when the sun is 6° below the horizon.

How to use

  1. Choose a city, or click Use my location.
  2. Pick a date — today is selected when the page opens.
  3. Read the Sun and Moon panels, and scroll the table for the next 30 days.

Options explained

Civil dawn and dusk
When the sun is 6° below the horizon — roughly when it gets light enough to see outdoors without lights, and when it gets dark.
Evening golden hour
Starts when the sun drops to 6° above the horizon, the soft warm light photographers like; it lasts until sunset.
Sun does not rise / does not set
Shown inside the polar circles during polar night and midnight sun.

Sunrise and sunset at the solstices

Local times for 2026, calculated the same way as the tool. The June solstice is the longest day in the northern hemisphere and the shortest in the southern; December is the opposite.

City 21 June 2026 Day length 21 December 2026 Day length
Reykjavik 02:56 – 00:05 21 h 9 min 11:23 – 15:30 4 h 7 min
London 04:44 – 21:22 16 h 38 min 08:05 – 15:54 7 h 49 min
New York 05:26 – 20:31 15 h 6 min 07:17 – 16:32 9 h 15 min
Beijing 04:47 – 19:47 15 h 0 min 07:33 – 16:53 9 h 20 min
Tokyo 04:26 – 19:01 14 h 35 min 06:48 – 16:32 9 h 44 min
Los Angeles 05:43 – 20:08 14 h 25 min 06:55 – 16:48 9 h 53 min
Singapore 07:01 – 19:13 12 h 12 min 07:02 – 19:05 12 h 3 min
Sydney 07:01 – 16:54 9 h 54 min 05:41 – 20:06 14 h 24 min

Near the equator, as in Singapore, day length barely changes through the year; the further from the equator, the bigger the swing.

Twilight and golden hour

Civil twilight starts when the sun is 6° below the horizon. Before sunrise and after sunset there is still enough light to be outdoors without lamps — roughly 30 minutes at mid latitudes.

Golden hour is when the sun is low, giving warm, soft light for photos. The tool shows when the evening golden hour starts, about an hour before sunset at mid latitudes.

Solar noon is when the sun is highest in the sky. Because of time zones and daylight saving time it is rarely exactly 12:00 on the clock.

Frequently asked questions

Which time zone are the times in?

The local time of the selected city, including daylight saving time. With Use my location, your device’s time zone is used.

Why is the sunset I see a few minutes different?

The times are for a flat horizon at sea level. Mountains, buildings and air temperature can shift the visible sunrise or sunset by a few minutes.

Is my location sent anywhere?

No. The browser gives the coordinates to this page and everything is calculated on your device.
