How to use
- Choose a PDF form. Its pages appear with the fillable fields highlighted.
- Type into the fields on the page. Field names are cryptic on some forms; hover over a field to see its name, or switch to As a list.
- Tick Flatten if the filled form should no longer be editable.
- Click Download filled PDF.
Options explained
- Flatten
- Turns the fields and your answers into ordinary page content, so they look the same everywhere and can no longer be changed.
- As a list
- Shows every field one below the other with its name or tooltip, which is easier on small screens.
Field types
A fillable PDF contains form fields, called AcroForm fields. This is what each type accepts here:
| Field type | How you fill it |
|---|---|
| Text | Type text; multiline fields accept line breaks, and a maximum length set by the form is respected |
| Check box | Tick or untick |
| Radio buttons | Pick one option in the group |
| Drop-down | Choose one option; if the form allows it, you can also type your own |
| List box | Choose one option, or several when the form allows multiple selection |
| Signature and buttons | Left as they are |
The field names shown while you hover come from the form’s tooltip text when it has one, and otherwise from the technical field name. Forms converted from older XFA designs often have names such as topmostSubform[0].Page1[0].f1_01[0], and the tool shows the last part without the numbers in brackets.
Frequently asked questions
Why does it say the PDF has no fillable fields?
Only PDFs with real form fields (AcroForm) can be filled. A scanned form or a PDF exported from Word without fields is just a picture of a form — use Sign PDF to add text, a date and a signature on top of it. Dynamic forms built for Adobe LiveCycle (XFA only) are not supported either.
Can I type Chinese, Cyrillic or other non-Western characters?
Yes. Those answers are drawn with your device’s fonts and stored as the field’s appearance, so every PDF reader shows them and the form can still be flattened. The field also keeps the typed text as its value, but after flattening the text in those fields can’t be selected or searched.
The form is password-protected. What now?
If it only restricts editing, remove the restriction with Unlock PDF first, then fill it here.
Does it support signature fields?
Signature fields and buttons are kept as they are. To add a handwritten-style signature, use Sign PDF after filling the form.
Are my answers uploaded?
No. The form is read and saved entirely in your browser.
