Frequently asked questions

What are full-width characters?

Versions of Latin letters, digits and symbols that take the same width as a Chinese character, such as A (U+FF21) instead of A. East Asian input methods can produce them by accident.

Why do full-width characters cause problems?

They look almost identical to normal characters but are different code points, so ABC does not match ABC in searches, phone numbers with full-width digits fail validation, and code with full-width symbols does not compile.

Does it change Chinese characters or 。、?

No. Only characters that have a full-width counterpart in Unicode are converted. The Chinese full stop 。 and the enumeration comma 、 have no half-width form and are left alone.

Is my text uploaded?

No. The conversion runs in your browser.
