How to use

  1. Choose Text / emoji and type one to three characters, or choose Image and upload your logo (SVG or a square PNG of at least 512 px works best).
  2. Pick colours and a shape — square, rounded or circle.
  3. Check the preview at 16, 32, 64 and 128 px; small sizes show whether the design is still readable.
  4. Download the ZIP, upload the files to your site's root folder and paste the HTML into the head.

The HTML

<link rel="icon" href="/favicon.ico" sizes="32x32">
<link rel="icon" href="/icon.svg" type="image/svg+xml">
<link rel="apple-touch-icon" href="/apple-touch-icon.png">

Frequently asked questions

Which files do I really need?

favicon.ico in the site root covers every browser. Add apple-touch-icon.png for iOS and the manifest with the 192/512 icons if you want a proper icon when the site is installed or pinned on Android.

Why does my favicon look blurry at 16 px?

Fine details disappear at 16 × 16 pixels. Use a bold letter or a simplified logo mark instead of the full logo with text.

I updated the favicon but still see the old one.

Browsers cache favicons aggressively. Hard-reload the page, or add a version query such as /favicon.ico?v=2 to the link tags.

Can I use an emoji as a favicon?

Yes. Emoji are drawn with your system's emoji font, so the result matches what you see in the preview.
