How to use
- Choose a photo, then pick a standard size or enter the width and height from the instructions.
- Enter the minimum and maximum file size in KB and the DPI.
- Drag and zoom the photo into place and click Export to download the JPG.
Options explained
- File size
- The highest quality that stays under the maximum is used. If the result is still below the minimum, harmless padding is added to the file without changing the picture.
- DPI
- Written into the JPG's JFIF and EXIF resolution fields; pixels are not changed.
- Background
- The background colour is not changed here; use the ID photo maker first if you need a white or blue background.
Preset sizes and converting millimetres to pixels
The size list contains these pixel sizes. They are common ID photo sizes, not the rules of any particular exam, so always use the numbers from your own instructions.
| Preset | Pixels |
|---|---|
| 1-inch photo | 295 × 413 |
| Small 1-inch | 260 × 378 |
| 2-inch photo | 413 × 579 |
| Small 2-inch | 413 × 531 |
| Chinese ID card | 358 × 441 |
| 480 × 640 (common online form size) | 480 × 640 |
If a form gives its size in millimetres or inches, convert it with pixels = size in inches × DPI, where one inch is 25.4 mm. For example, 25 × 35 mm at 300 DPI is 0.984 × 1.378 inches, which rounds to 295 × 413 pixels. Then enter those pixels as a custom size. Changing the DPI alone does not change the pixels.
Frequently asked questions
What size does my application need?
Every form and year differs. Follow the official instructions and type their numbers in.
Why is it still too large at the lowest quality?
A large pixel size with a very small limit can be impossible to reach. Check the size you entered, or use a photo with a plainer background.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser.
