Remove White Background

A logo on a white box, a photographed signature, a scanned stamp — and you need it on a document or another background. Choose the image and the white turns transparent, with clean edges and no white fringe. Download a transparent PNG.

Runs in your browser — nothing you enter is uploaded

or drop a stamp, signature or logo image here

Works best on a plain, evenly lit background, such as a stamp or signature on white paper or a logo on a solid colour. Half-transparent edges get their original colour back, so there is no white fringe.

Images are processed in your browser and never uploaded.

How to use

  1. Choose an image; the preview shows it on a transparent checkerboard.
  2. Adjust Tolerance and Edge softness. If the background isn't white, click the preview to pick its colour.
  3. To keep white areas inside the shape, tick Only remove background touching the edges, then download the PNG.

Options explained

How it works
Transparency comes from how far each pixel is from the background colour, and half-transparent edges get their original colour back, so no white fringe is left. No AI model is used.
Best for
Images on a plain, evenly lit background. Portraits and busy photos need a dedicated background remover.

How tolerance and edge softness turn into transparency

For each pixel the tool takes the largest difference, from 0 to 255, between its red, green or blue value and the background colour. By default the background colour is the average of the four corner pixels. Tolerance sets the difference below which a pixel becomes fully transparent: 128 × Tolerance ÷ 100. Edge softness sets how much further the difference has to grow before the pixel is fully opaque, 128 × Edge softness ÷ 100 (at least 1), with a linear ramp in between.

With the starting values of 12 and 20, a difference of up to 15.4 is fully transparent and 41 or more is fully opaque. For a grey pixel on a white background:

Pixel grey Difference Result alpha Colour after unmixing
240 15 0 removed
235 20 46 145
225 30 146 203
215 40 245 213
200 55 255 200

Half-transparent pixels get their colour recalculated as (colour − (1 − alpha) × background) ÷ alpha, which removes the white they had blended with. Both sliders go from 0 to 60. Trim transparent margins crops the PNG to the area that is still visible.

Frequently asked questions

The edges look too soft.

Lower Edge softness, or lower Tolerance if parts of the shape become see-through.

Can I keep the white inside letters like O and A?

Yes — tick Only remove background touching the edges.

Is my image uploaded?
